The Aam Aadmi Party has raised allegations against the Delhi Police after claiming that its Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar was taken away from his residence early Tuesday morning during a protest over the alleged killing of a Municipal Corporation of Delhi sanitation worker in Kalyanpuri.
AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that a group of people in plain clothes arrived at Kuldeep Kumar’s residence at around 4 am and took the legislator to an undisclosed location. The allegation came as protests continued in Kalyanpuri following the death of a sanitation worker.
According to the AAP, Kuldeep Kumar had been participating in the protest and raising demands on behalf of sanitation workers and the family of the deceased employee. The protesters have been seeking compensation for the family and demanding that the government take action in connection with the alleged killing.
The incident has created a political dispute between the AAP and the Delhi government. Bharadwaj alleged that the protesters wanted an opportunity to meet Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to discuss the demands of the sanitation workers and the family of the deceased. The AAP has criticised the manner in which the protest was handled.
The controversy follows the alleged killing of an MCD sanitation worker in Kalyanpuri. Reports said a sanitation worker was allegedly stabbed to death while carrying out his duties in the area. The incident led to anger among fellow sanitation workers, who subsequently joined protests demanding action against those responsible and assistance for the victim’s family.
The deceased worker has been identified in reports as 27 year old Anil Kumar. According to reports, he was allegedly attacked with a knife while performing sanitation work in Kalyanpuri. Police began an investigation after receiving information about the incident, while CCTV footage was also examined as part of efforts to identify and trace the accused.
The protest led by sanitation workers and local residents continued for a second day, with Kuldeep Kumar joining the demonstration. The AAP said the protesters wanted justice for the deceased worker and financial assistance for his family. The party also demanded greater accountability regarding the safety of sanitation workers.
The issue of compensation has emerged as one of the central demands of the protesters. Reports indicate that sanitation workers have sought substantial financial assistance for the victim’s family. They have also demanded that the government take steps to ensure the welfare and security of sanitation workers working across Delhi.
Another allegation raised by the AAP concerns the cremation of the deceased sanitation worker. Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that police pressured the family to proceed with the last rites. The AAP has questioned the circumstances surrounding the cremation and demanded that the concerns raised by the family and protesters be addressed.
At the time of the reports, Delhi Police had not immediately issued a response to the allegations that Kuldeep Kumar was taken to an undisclosed location. Therefore, the claim that the MLA was kidnapped remains an allegation made by the AAP and should not be treated as an established fact.
The use of the term kidnapping by the political party has become a major point of contention in the developing dispute. The AAP has described the incident as an attempt to prevent its MLA from continuing his participation in the protest. Police authorities have yet to publicly provide their version of the circumstances surrounding the MLA’s removal, according to the reports available at the time.
The Kalyanpuri incident has also renewed attention on the working conditions and safety of sanitation workers. Employees involved in sanitation work often operate in public spaces and are exposed to various risks while carrying out their duties. The alleged killing has therefore generated concern among colleagues and local residents.
The AAP has demanded that the authorities ensure justice for the deceased worker’s family and take appropriate action in the case. The party has also continued to raise questions about the handling of the protest and the alleged removal of its MLA.
The developments are expected to remain politically significant as the AAP and the Delhi government exchange allegations over the handling of the protest. Further clarification from Delhi Police and the administration could establish the circumstances surrounding Kuldeep Kumar’s removal and address the allegations raised by the opposition party.
For now, the key issues remain the investigation into the alleged killing of the sanitation worker, the demands of his family and colleagues, the compensation sought by protesters, and the allegations concerning MLA Kuldeep Kumar.
The incident highlights the importance of allowing investigations into serious criminal allegations to proceed while ensuring that the rights and concerns of affected families and protesting workers are addressed through due process.
