Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has launched a strong attack on the Uttar Pradesh government over the ongoing electricity crisis being reported in several parts of the state. The issue has triggered political debate as residents in many districts continue to face prolonged power outages during the summer season.
Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government was attempting to divert public attention from growing dissatisfaction related to electricity shortages and rising public inconvenience. According to him, frequent power cuts were affecting households, farmers, traders and small businesses across the state.
The Samajwadi Party leader stated that many areas in Uttar Pradesh were facing severe electricity disruptions at a time when temperatures remain high in several districts. He claimed that rural regions were particularly affected, with residents struggling due to irregular power supply and extended outages.
Yadav also criticised the state administration for what he described as inadequate planning and poor management of electricity distribution. He alleged that political decisions and internal administrative changes were being used to shift focus away from issues directly affecting the public.
In response to the criticism, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that ensuring uninterrupted power supply remains one of the government’s top priorities. He said officials have been instructed to closely monitor electricity distribution and address technical faults at the earliest.
The Chief Minister also emphasised that the government has been working to strengthen power infrastructure and improve electricity access across the state. According to officials, efforts are being made to manage increased demand during the peak summer season when electricity consumption rises sharply.
Power shortages and load management issues are often reported in several states during summer months due to increased use of cooling appliances and rising demand for electricity. Experts note that maintaining stable supply during heatwaves remains a challenge for power distribution companies in many regions.
The ongoing power crisis has become a major political issue in Uttar Pradesh, with opposition parties targeting the state government over public inconvenience. Residents in some areas have reportedly complained about disruptions affecting water supply, businesses and agricultural activities.
Political analysts believe that public utility issues such as electricity, water supply and inflation are likely to remain central topics in upcoming political campaigns and public discussions. Both the ruling party and opposition are expected to continue highlighting governance and infrastructure issues in the state.
Meanwhile, state authorities have assured that additional measures are being implemented to improve power supply stability. Technical teams and electricity department officials have reportedly been directed to respond quickly to complaints and restore disrupted services in affected districts.
The debate over electricity shortages reflects broader concerns regarding infrastructure management, rising demand and public service delivery in one of India’s largest states.
