Congress Reviews Preparations for November 1 INDIA Bloc Rally Against Alleged Vote Theft
The Congress has intensified preparations for the INDIA bloc's proposed rally against alleged electoral irregularities, scheduled for November 1 at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi. The party says the event will demonstrate opposition unity and strengthen its campaign over what it describes as vote theft, commonly referred to by the slogan “vote chori.”
Congress general secretaries Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and K C Venugopal met party leaders from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana at the All India Congress Committee headquarters in New Delhi on October 23 to review preparations and discuss mobilisation efforts. The meeting focused on organising participation from the two states ahead of the planned rally.
Priyanka Gandhi and K C Venugopal Review Rally Preparations
The Congress leadership has been coordinating with state units to encourage participation in the November 1 programme. The discussions involved senior leaders responsible for party organisation and political activities in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
The Uttar Pradesh meeting included AICC state in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam, former Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Rai, state working president Imran Masood and senior leaders Salman Khurshid and Ajay Lallu, among others.
The Haryana meeting included AICC in-charge Sanjay Dutt, state Congress president Rao Narender Singh, Congress general secretary Randeep Surjewala and MP Deepender Hooda, along with other party representatives.
Venugopal said in a post on social media platform X that the meetings were intended to assess mobilisation efforts and coordinate preparations for the INDIA bloc rally. The party is seeking participation from different parts of the country to make the event a large-scale demonstration.
Congress Expects Large Participation in Delhi
According to Venugopal, the Ramlila Maidan gathering will mark the culmination of a planned “Delhi Chalo March” reaching the national capital on November 1. He said organisers expect at least one million citizens to participate in the mobilisation.
The figure represents the Congress leadership's stated expectation and should not be treated as a confirmed attendance estimate. Actual participation will become clear only when the event takes place.
The party has described the rally as an effort to bring together citizens and opposition supporters around concerns about electoral integrity. Congress leaders say they intend to use the gathering to highlight their allegations and demand accountability from the authorities responsible for administering elections.
The event is also expected to serve as a show of strength for the INDIA opposition alliance. Its organisers want to convey that opposition parties remain united on the issue, despite the political and organisational challenges involved in coordinating a nationwide campaign.
What Is the Vote Chori Allegation?
The phrase “vote chori,” meaning vote theft, has become a central slogan in the Congress campaign against alleged electoral irregularities. The party has raised concerns about the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, of electoral rolls and has questioned aspects of the process.
The INDIA bloc's protest is aimed at increasing pressure on the government and the Election Commission over these allegations. Opposition leaders have also called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
These remain political allegations and demands made by the opposition. They should not be presented as established findings of electoral fraud without independent evidence or an authoritative determination. The Election Commission's procedures and any legal challenges must be considered separately from the claims made by political parties.
The proposed rally is intended to keep the issue in the public debate and seek responses from the relevant institutions. The extent to which the campaign influences the government's position or leads to further action remains uncertain.
Opposition Protest and Earlier Developments
The November 1 rally follows earlier opposition activity concerning the electoral-roll revision process. On October 12, opposition leaders, activists and members of civil society participated in a “March for Democracy” in New Delhi. Participants also filed a joint petition challenging the SIR process, according to media reports.
The following day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hosted INDIA bloc leaders for a meeting at his residence. After the discussions, opposition representatives indicated that they would continue their campaign over the alleged irregularities.
The planned Ramlila Maidan rally is therefore part of a continuing political effort rather than an isolated event. Congress leaders are attempting to maintain pressure through public demonstrations, coordination among state units and engagement with other opposition parties.
What Happens Next?
With the November 1 date approaching, the Congress is expected to continue coordinating with state leaders and party workers to organise participation. The rally's size, the presence of other INDIA bloc leaders and the response from the government and Election Commission will be important developments to watch.
The Congress says the demonstration will highlight its commitment to electoral transparency and democratic accountability. The government and election authorities' responses, along with any developments in the legal proceedings related to the SIR, will shape the next phase of the dispute.
For now, the confirmed development is that Congress leaders have reviewed preparations for the planned rally and are working to mobilise participants from Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and other parts of India. The allegations surrounding electoral rolls remain contested, and the rally's political impact will become clearer after the event.
