Jharkhand Assembly Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Babulal Marandi, along with several other party leaders, were detained during a protest outside Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s residence over alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission.
The BJP organised the protest demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the allegations surrounding the recruitment examinations. Party leaders have been seeking an independent investigation, arguing that the allegations require a detailed examination by a central investigative agency.
The protest took place outside the residence of the Jharkhand Chief Minister, where BJP leaders raised their concerns over the examination and recruitment process. Babulal Marandi, who is the Leader of Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, participated in the demonstration along with other party leaders and workers.
During the protest, Marandi and several BJP leaders were detained by authorities. The detention became another point of political confrontation between the opposition party and the state government.
The Jharkhand Public Service Commission conducts examinations for various government posts in the state, while the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission is responsible for conducting recruitment examinations for several categories of government positions. The recruitment process is therefore closely watched by thousands of candidates seeking government employment.
Allegations of irregularities in competitive examinations can have a significant impact on candidates because recruitment examinations determine access to government jobs. Opposition parties have therefore demanded that any concerns relating to examination procedures be investigated thoroughly.
The BJP has maintained that a CBI investigation would provide an independent mechanism to examine the allegations. The party has also demanded accountability from those responsible if any wrongdoing is established.

The detention of senior BJP leaders during the protest has also added to the political tension. Protests involving opposition leaders outside the residence of a sitting Chief Minister can become contentious, particularly when the demonstration concerns recruitment and allegations of irregularities.
The BJP is expected to continue raising the issue in the Jharkhand Assembly and through public demonstrations. The party has indicated that it wants the allegations to be examined through an independent investigation.
