Several Opposition Members of Parliament staged a protest march inside the Parliament complex, raising multiple issues during the ongoing session. The march was led by senior leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, along with MPs from various Opposition parties.
The protest began at the Mahatma Gandhi statue located at Prerna Sthal within the Parliament premises and proceeded towards Makar Dwar. During the march, Opposition leaders demanded accountability from Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the alleged police action against student protesters during demonstrations held on July 20.
According to Opposition leaders, concerns were raised over the manner in which law enforcement agencies handled the protests. They called for an explanation from the Union Government and urged that the matter be discussed in Parliament. The protesting MPs stated that issues relating to democratic rights, public protests, and the treatment of demonstrators deserve detailed debate in both Houses.
Apart from the issue of the alleged police action, the Opposition also highlighted allegations relating to the management of donations connected with the Ayodhya Ram Mandir. The leaders demanded transparency and sought clarification on the allegations. The government has responded to various Opposition demands in Parliament on several occasions, and any official findings or investigations related to such allegations would be subject to due legal and administrative processes.
During the demonstration, Opposition MPs carried placards and raised slogans while walking through the designated areas of the Parliament complex. The protest remained peaceful and was conducted as part of their parliamentary demonstration.
Leaders participating in the march stated that they intended to continue raising these issues during the current Parliament session. They also called for discussions on matters concerning public accountability, governance, and the protection of democratic institutions.
