In a rare show of political unity, several opposition parties across India have publicly expressed their strong support for the Indian Army's successful execution of ‘Operation Sindoor’. This military operation, which demonstrated the army’s precision, discipline, and preparedness, drew positive reactions from political leaders who usually stand on opposing sides in the country's political landscape.
From the Indian National Congress to the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction), a broad range of opposition leaders issued statements applauding the courage and dedication of Indian soldiers involved in the operation. Many emphasized that when it comes to national security and the dignity of the armed forces, politics must take a backseat.
Congress spokespersons praised the professionalism of the Army and stated that the entire nation stood united in support of its soldiers. Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “The Indian Army has once again proven its commitment to protecting the sovereignty of the nation. We salute their dedication.”
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut echoed similar sentiments, stating that India's security is above politics. “We might have political differences, but when it comes to the honour of the nation and our soldiers, we speak in one voice,” he remarked during a media interaction.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders also extended their support and hailed the operation as a sign of India’s growing strategic capability. “The Indian Army has once again reminded the world of its discipline, strength, and strategic competence,” said an NCP spokesperson.
Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress also issued statements supporting the armed forces. Though these parties have often criticized central policies on other matters, they maintained that India's defence and internal security must always remain a matter of national consensus. This collective response reflects the seriousness with which the operation has been viewed across the political spectrum.
Defence analysts say such bipartisan support boosts the morale of the armed forces and helps create a unified national stance in times of geopolitical tension. Analysts also noted that when political parties extend unified backing for military operations, it sends a strong signal to adversaries about India’s internal unity on security matters.
Operation Sindoor has thus not only achieved its operational goals but also fostered a moment of national solidarity. Political observers believe that such unity, if maintained beyond crises, could contribute to a more constructive political environment overall.
The government, while acknowledging the opposition’s support, has called for continued cooperation on all matters of national interest. In response, opposition parties reiterated that while they will continue to question the government on policy and governance, they will never compromise when it comes to matters of national security and the integrity of the armed forces.
This display of bipartisan respect for India’s military might marks a significant moment in Indian politics—where patriotism transcended partisanship.
