The 15th Legislative Assembly of Puducherry has officially been dissolved by K. Kailashnathan following the conclusion of the recent Assembly elections in the Union Territory. The dissolution came into effect from May 5 after the election results were formally announced on May 4.

The latest political development follows the strong electoral performance of the National Democratic Alliance led by N. Rangasamy and his party, the All India N.R. Congress. The NDA alliance secured 18 seats in the 30-member Assembly, giving the coalition a comfortable majority to form the next government in Puducherry.

According to official notifications, the dissolution of the Assembly marks the completion of the tenure of the previous legislative structure and clears the way for the constitution of the new Assembly following the election mandate. Constitutional procedures related to government formation are expected to continue in the coming days.

Political observers noted that the NDA’s victory reflects continued public support for the leadership of N Rangasamy, who remains one of the most influential political figures in Puducherry politics. The election results also strengthened the alliance’s position in the Union Territory at a time when regional and national political dynamics continue to evolve.

Following the announcement of results, celebrations were reported among NDA supporters across several parts of Puducherry. Party workers and supporters gathered at various locations to welcome the alliance’s victory and express confidence in the formation of a stable government.

The Assembly elections in Puducherry witnessed active campaigning by major political parties and alliances. Key issues discussed during the election campaign included employment opportunities, infrastructure development, welfare schemes, tourism growth and economic progress in the Union Territory.

Political analysts believe the new government will face important responsibilities in addressing developmental priorities and strengthening public services. Areas such as healthcare, education, urban infrastructure and employment generation are expected to remain major focus areas for the incoming administration.

The role of the Lieutenant Governor is considered important during the transition phase after elections, particularly in inviting the majority alliance to form the government and ensuring constitutional procedures are followed smoothly. Officials stated that all necessary formalities regarding the new government are expected to take place according to constitutional guidelines.

The NDA’s victory in Puducherry has also attracted attention at the national political level because of the strategic importance of the Union Territory. Political experts believe the election outcome could influence future alliance strategies and political planning in southern India.

Meanwhile, opposition parties are expected to review their electoral performance and prepare for their role in the new Assembly. Political discussions regarding cabinet formation and administrative priorities have already begun among alliance leaders and elected representatives.

With the dissolution of the 15th Legislative Assembly now complete, attention has shifted toward the swearing-in process and the formation of the next Council of Ministers. Officials are expected to announce further developments regarding the new government in the coming days.

The election results and subsequent constitutional developments mark a significant political transition for Puducherry as the Union Territory prepares for a new legislative term under the NDA-led administration.
