Rahul Gandhi Criticises PM Modi Over Adani Issue and India US Trade Discussions

Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over reports concerning businessman Gautam Adani and ongoing discussions related to India US trade relations.

Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Prime Minister focused more on issues connected to Gautam Adani instead of prioritising India’s broader trade interests during interactions linked to the United States. His comments came after media reports claimed that the US Justice Department was considering dropping certain criminal fraud-related charges involving Gautam Adani.

According to reports, Gautam Adani has also announced major investment plans in the United States, including a proposed investment reportedly valued at around 10 billion US dollars. The developments have attracted political attention in India, with opposition parties questioning the relationship between the government and large business groups.

Reacting to the reports, Rahul Gandhi accused the Central government of favouring select corporate interests. He stated that issues concerning the welfare of the country and transparent governance should remain the priority in international engagements and trade negotiations.

The Bharatiya Janata Party and government representatives have repeatedly rejected allegations made by opposition leaders regarding any special treatment towards industrialists. BJP leaders have often described such accusations as politically motivated and aimed at targeting the government ahead of elections and major political events.

The controversy surrounding the Adani Group has remained a significant political issue over the past few years. Opposition parties, particularly the Congress, have frequently raised questions regarding investigations, financial matters, and the relationship between the government and the business conglomerate. The ruling party, however, has maintained that government policies are designed for economic growth and investment promotion without favouring any specific company.

Political analysts believe Rahul Gandhi’s latest remarks are part of the Congress party’s continued strategy to challenge the government on issues related to corporate influence, economic transparency, and accountability. The opposition has consistently attempted to link economic policies and major business developments with political decision-making at the national level.

The issue has also generated debate regarding India US economic relations and international business investments. Experts note that trade discussions between countries usually involve broader strategic and economic interests, including investment opportunities, technology partnerships, and bilateral cooperation.

Meanwhile, supporters of the government argue that foreign investments and international partnerships are essential for economic development, employment generation, and infrastructure expansion. They also claim that opposition criticism is intended to create political controversy around major economic announcements.

The latest exchange between Rahul Gandhi and the ruling government has once again highlighted the growing political divide over economic policies, corporate influence, and governance. As political debates continue, the issue is expected to remain part of national discussions in the coming weeks.
