Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre has been arrested following allegations that he assaulted two doctors at a hospital in Maharashtra. The incident has attracted widespread attention after the two doctors involved reportedly resigned from their positions, prompting renewed discussions about the safety of healthcare professionals in hospitals.

According to officials, the alleged assault took place during an interaction at the hospital. Following the incident, police registered a case and arrested Ramesh Mhatre based on the complaint and the available evidence. Authorities have stated that the investigation is continuing, and all legal procedures will be carried out in accordance with the law.

Soon after his arrest, Mhatre reportedly complained of chest pain and was admitted to a hospital for medical examination and treatment. Officials confirmed that he remains under medical supervision while the legal process continues.

The two doctors involved in the incident later submitted their resignations from their respective positions. Their colleagues confirmed that the resignations were voluntary and followed the events surrounding the alleged assault. Hospital authorities have not publicly disclosed further details regarding their future employment.

The incident has received strong criticism from doctors' associations and healthcare professionals across the state. Several medical organizations have expressed concern over the increasing number of incidents involving violence against healthcare workers. They have emphasized that doctors and hospital staff should be able to perform their duties in a safe and secure environment without fear of intimidation or physical assault.

Medical professionals have also urged the authorities to ensure that existing laws protecting healthcare workers are implemented effectively. They have called for prompt investigations and appropriate legal action in cases involving violence against medical personnel.

Hospital administrators have stated that patient care remains their top priority and that steps are being taken to ensure uninterrupted medical services despite the resignations. Officials are also reviewing security arrangements within the hospital to improve the safety of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff.

The police investigation is expected to examine witness statements, hospital records, and available surveillance footage as part of the inquiry. Authorities have not released additional information regarding the charges beyond confirming that the legal process is underway.

Incidents involving violence against doctors have repeatedly raised concerns across India, leading to demands for stricter enforcement of laws designed to protect healthcare workers. Medical associations continue to advocate for stronger institutional safeguards, increased security, and greater public awareness regarding the importance of maintaining a safe working environment in hospitals.

As the investigation progresses, officials have appealed to the public to avoid speculation and rely only on verified information released by the police and relevant authorities
