DMK leader and Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin was arrested by Chennai Police on Tuesday following the registration of a First Information Report in connection with his alleged remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay during a recent political gathering. The arrest came after police deployed additional security personnel around Udhayanidhi Stalin's residence in Chennai amid expectations of protests by party workers.

According to police officials, the case relates to statements allegedly made by Udhayanidhi Stalin during a public meeting where he criticised the Chief Minister and the state government's functioning. The remarks triggered political controversy, with the Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam raising objections and filing complaints seeking legal action.

The controversy also intensified after slogans referring to actor Trisha were raised during the event. The incident drew criticism from political opponents, who alleged that the comments and slogans were inappropriate. Complaints were subsequently submitted to the police, leading to the registration of an FIR against Udhayanidhi Stalin.

On Tuesday morning, police officers reached Udhayanidhi Stalin's residence and took him into custody. Several DMK workers gathered outside the residence to protest the police action. Authorities detained a number of supporters as they attempted to prevent the police from carrying out the arrest. Security was tightened in and around the area to maintain law and order.

The arrest has triggered strong political reactions across Tamil Nadu. DMK leaders criticised the police action, describing it as politically motivated, while leaders of rival parties defended the registration of the case and called for appropriate legal proceedings. The developments have further escalated the ongoing political rivalry between the DMK and the ruling Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam.

Separately, legal proceedings have also begun in the matter. Udhayanidhi Stalin has approached the Madras High Court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with the case, while the investigation into the allegations is continuing. The court is expected to hear the matter in accordance with the legal process.

Police have not announced any final findings regarding the allegations, and the investigation remains ongoing. The FIR represents the beginning of the criminal process and does not determine guilt. Any conclusions regarding the allegations will depend on the outcome of the investigation and subsequent court proceedings.

The incident has become one of the major political developments in Tamil Nadu, drawing attention from political parties, legal observers and the public. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses and the courts consider the related petitions
