DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has once again clarified his remarks regarding Sanatan Dharma, stating that his comments were directed against caste discrimination and social inequality rather than religion itself. His clarification comes amid continued political discussions and criticism over his earlier statements.
Speaking about the controversy, Udhayanidhi Stalin said his intention was to oppose practices that create divisions among people in society. He explained that the focus of his remarks was on abolishing the caste system and ensuring equal rights for everyone. According to him, advocating social equality should not be misunderstood as being against religious beliefs or temple worship.
He further stated that visiting temples or following religious practices is a personal choice and that his comments were never aimed at preventing people from practising their faith. Instead, he stressed that society should move towards equality where no individual faces discrimination based on caste or social background.
Udhayanidhi Stalin also connected his views with the principles of the Dravidian movement, which has historically campaigned for social justice, rational thinking, and equal opportunities. He said the movement has consistently worked against oppression and inequality while supporting the rights of marginalised communities.
The controversy surrounding his earlier statement had triggered strong political reactions across the country.
