The Uttar Pradesh Government has initiated an investigation following reports that mattresses with designs resembling the flag of a political party were distributed during a government-sponsored mass wedding programme. The incident has attracted administrative attention, prompting immediate action from district authorities.
According to officials, the matter came to light after participants and local authorities noticed that some mattresses distributed to newly married couples carried a printed design that appeared similar to the flag of a recognised political party. Following the reports, the District Magistrate took immediate cognisance of the issue and ordered a detailed inquiry.
A preliminary investigation found that a number of mattress covers supplied for the event featured a colour pattern and design that resembled a political party's symbol. Officials stated that the matter is being examined to determine whether the similarity was intentional or resulted from a manufacturing or procurement error.
As part of the initial administrative response, the government suspended an official associated with the procurement and distribution process pending completion of the inquiry. Authorities stated that the suspension was a precautionary measure to ensure a fair and transparent investigation into the incident.
The supplier responsible for providing the mattresses has also been blacklisted by the district administration. In addition, a First Information Report has been registered against the firm to facilitate a detailed legal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the supply of the materials.
Officials said that the inquiry will examine procurement procedures, quality control measures and compliance with government guidelines governing public welfare schemes. The investigation will also determine whether established procurement norms were followed before the items were distributed at the event.
The District Magistrate has directed concerned departments to submit a comprehensive report detailing the sequence of events, the procurement process and the responsibilities of officials involved.
