West Bengal Chief Minister has announced that the national song “Vande Mataram” will be sung in all state-run schools across West Bengal beginning Monday. The announcement was made during a public interaction, and an official government notification is expected to be issued from Nabanna, the state secretariat, shortly.
According to the Chief Minister, the move aims to encourage patriotism, unity and cultural awareness among students studying in government educational institutions. The decision is expected to apply to schools functioning under the state education department across West Bengal.
Officials said detailed guidelines regarding the implementation of the order are likely to be released through an official circular. School authorities may receive instructions regarding the timing and format for singing the national song during school assemblies or special functions.
“Vande Mataram” holds an important place in Indian history and the freedom movement. The song, composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, was widely used during India’s struggle for independence and later received recognition as the national song of the country. Over the years, several states and educational institutions have encouraged the singing of the song during official events and school programs.
During the same interaction, the Chief Minister also congratulated students who performed well in the recently announced Higher Secondary examinations in West Bengal. She praised the efforts of students, teachers and parents for achieving strong academic results despite various challenges.
Mamata Banerjee further stated that she intends to personally speak with some of the top-performing students in the Higher Secondary examinations. According to officials, arrangements may be made for virtual or direct interactions with rank holders and high achievers from different districts.
In another important political development, the Chief Minister announced that Rathindranath Bose would be nominated as the Speaker of the State Assembly. The decision is being viewed as a significant administrative and political appointment within the state government.
Political observers believe the announcement regarding “Vande Mataram” could generate public and political discussions in the coming days.
