The Super 7 stage will feature seven teams playing a round-robin competition. At the end of this stage, the top four teams will qualify for the semifinals. The team finishing first will face the fourth-placed team, while the second-placed side will meet the third-placed side in the other semifinal.
The winners of those two semifinals will then meet in the final to determine the 2027 ODI World Cup champion. The ICC says the new format is designed to provide more competitive matches while allowing more teams to participate in the global tournament.
The 2027 tournament will return to Africa 24 years after South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya co-hosted the 2003 edition. This time, Namibia will also be part of the hosting arrangement. The ICC has confirmed 12 host venues across the three countries, including eight cities in South Africa, three in Zimbabwe and Windhoek in Namibia.
South Africa will host matches in major cricket centres including Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, Paarl, Centurion and East London. Zimbabwe will host matches in three cities, while Namibia’s capital Windhoek will become part of the tournament’s hosting network.
