The Board of Control for Cricket in India has issued new guidelines for all ten franchises participating in the upcoming Indian Premier League season scheduled for 2026. The updated rules focus on regulating practice sessions and training facilities to ensure fairness and equal preparation opportunities for every team.
According to the instructions provided by the cricket governing body each franchise will be required to follow strict rules during their practice sessions at tournament venues. One of the key directives states that teams cannot train on the same pitch or practice surface that was previously used by an opposing team during their net sessions.
Under the revised system every team must be provided with fresh practice nets during their allocated training period. This rule is intended to prevent teams from gaining any advantage by observing or using practice surfaces that might already have been used by their opponents.
Officials involved in tournament planning say that practice facilities play an important role in team preparation. Pitch conditions during training sessions can influence a player ability to adjust their techniques for upcoming matches. By ensuring that every team receives new practice surfaces the cricket board aims to maintain a level playing field for all participants.
The guidelines also address situations where two teams may have practice sessions scheduled at the same venue. If teams train one after another the second team must be given new practice nets rather than using the surfaces that were previously used. In cases where practice sessions occur at the same time the teams must be assigned separate training areas to avoid overlap.
The new instructions also clarify that teams cannot use the nets or training areas of their opponents even if those facilities are temporarily vacant. For example if a team completes its practice earlier than scheduled the other team will still not be allowed to use the same nets or range hitting pitches.
Tournament organisers say the purpose of these measures is to maintain professional standards and fairness throughout the competition. The Indian Premier League is one of the most watched cricket tournaments in the world and involves players from many countries. As a result the board regularly updates operational guidelines to ensure smooth management of matches and training arrangements.
Practice sessions during the league are considered important because teams travel across different cities and encounter varied pitch conditions. Access to appropriate training facilities helps players prepare for the playing surfaces they will face during matches.
The 2026 season of the Indian Premier League will again feature ten teams competing in a format that includes league matches followed by playoff stages. Franchises usually begin their preparation well in advance by organising training camps practice matches and strategy meetings.
With the introduction of these new practice rules the cricket board aims to improve the organisation of training sessions and avoid disputes between teams over the use of facilities. Officials believe that clear guidelines will help teams focus on their preparations while maintaining transparency in tournament operations.
As the new season approaches franchises are expected to adjust their practice schedules according to the updated instructions issued by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
