England claimed an unassailable 3-0 lead in their T20I series against the West Indies after a thrilling 3-wicket victory in the third match at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia, on Friday, November 15. With this win, England clinched their first T20I series victory in the West Indies since 2019, following two consecutive series defeats in 2022 and 2023.

The match saw an exceptional bowling performance from Saqib Mahmood and Jamie Overton, who both claimed three wickets each, dismantling the West Indies batting lineup and restricting them to a modest total of 145/8 in their 20 overs. Mahmood was particularly impressive, removing key wickets early, including Evin Lewis, Roston Chase, and Shimron Hetmyer. Overton also made vital breakthroughs, keeping the hosts under pressure throughout their innings.

England's chase, however, was not without drama. After a delayed start due to rain, England found themselves in a bit of trouble early on, losing three wickets during the powerplay. Despite the early setbacks, Sam Curran (41 off 26 balls) and Liam Livingstone (39 off 28 balls) anchored the chase with solid knocks, guiding England toward their target in the final over. Livingstone, despite surviving three dropped catches, played an important role in the middle overs, while Curran's aggressive batting ensured the run rate remained in check.

Will Jacks also contributed significantly with 32 runs off 33 balls, providing stability after the early wickets. Despite the pressure, England’s lower order held firm and ensured the target was met with three balls to spare.

For the West Indies, Akeal Hosein was the standout performer with the ball, finishing with remarkable figures of 4/21 in his four overs. His efforts were not enough to stop England, however, as the home side’s batting faltered once again. Alzarri Joseph, making a return to the side, was expensive despite claiming a wicket in his first spell. Gudakesh Motie and Terrance Hinds also claimed a wicket each, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the West Indies from slipping to defeat.

The West Indies' top order once again failed to deliver, with the team crumbling to 37/5 in the early stages of their innings. The pacers, particularly Mahmood and Jofra Archer, exploited the conditions well. Archer dismissed the dangerous Nicholas Pooran, while Mahmood's early strikes left the West Indies reeling in the powerplay. This allowed England to dominate for the majority of the match, and despite a few late flurries from the West Indies lower order, the target was within England's reach.

This victory not only secured the series but also marked a significant achievement for England, as they have now confirmed their first T20I series win in the West Indies in four years. The series was a crucial one for England, and they will now look forward to building on this momentum as they continue to prepare for future international competitions.
