His selection has sparked discussion across cricket circles, especially due to the omission of notable names like Shreyas Iyer, Sai Sudharsan, and Arshdeep Singh.

As India prepares for its high-stakes Test series against England later this year, a former chief selector has offered his take on what the final squad might look like. His selection has sparked discussion across cricket circles, especially due to the omission of notable names like Shreyas Iyer, Sai Sudharsan, and Arshdeep Singh.

The selector, who has previously served on the BCCI’s selection committee, emphasized performance, fitness, and experience as key criteria in his predicted squad. According to him, players like Iyer and Arshdeep have shown promise but may not be part of the final group for the England tour due to recent inconsistencies and injury concerns.

Shreyas Iyer, once a mainstay in India’s middle order, has struggled with both form and fitness over the past few months. Despite his strong performances in white-ball formats, his Test credentials are under scrutiny. The former selector believes that a long-format tour in England requires players in peak physical and mental condition, and Iyer may need more time to regain his rhythm.

Sai Sudharsan, who has been impressive in the IPL and domestic limited-overs cricket, is yet to establish himself in the red-ball format. While many consider him a rising talent, the former selector pointed out that the England tour is not the ideal platform for experimenting with inexperienced batters in the Test arena.

Arshdeep Singh, a left-arm pacer known for his T20 exploits, has had limited exposure in red-ball cricket. His omission is based on the understanding that England's challenging conditions demand experienced fast bowlers with the ability to swing and seam consistently over long spells.

Among those expected to feature in the squad are stalwarts like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Jasprit Bumrah, along with emerging performers like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mukesh Kumar. The predicted squad blends experience with youth, aligning with India’s strategy to build for the future while staying competitive in current tours.

The former selector also highlighted the importance of selecting bowlers who can exploit England's conditions effectively. Seamers like Mohammed Shami, if fit, and Mohammed Siraj are expected to lead the pace attack, while Ashwin and Jadeja are likely to handle spin responsibilities.

The BCCI has yet to make the official squad announcement, but discussions are ongoing among selectors, considering workload management and players’ availability. With the World Test Championship points at stake, the selection process is being taken seriously.

Cricket fans and analysts await the final list, as debates continue over who deserves a place based on current form, fitness, and overseas adaptability. As the tour approaches, team India’s preparations are expected to intensify, and the selection will play a key role in determining the outcome of the series.
