Siddharth Kaul, the 34-year-old pacer from Punjab, has officially announced his retirement from Indian cricket following his omission from the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. Kaul, who represented India in three ODIs and three T20Is between 2018 and 2019, took to social media to share the news of his retirement after he was not picked by any franchise during the auction.
Kaul’s journey in domestic cricket and the IPL has been notable. He started his career with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and went on to play for Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Over the years, he made significant contributions with the ball, especially during SRH's successful campaigns. Despite his consistent performances, Kaul was unsold at the IPL 2025 auction, which seems to have been a turning point in his career, prompting him to make the difficult decision to retire from Indian cricket.
Taking to social media, Kaul wrote a heartfelt message announcing his decision: “The time has now come to call time on my career in India and announce my retirement.” The pacer, who was also a part of India's Under-19 World Cup-winning squad in 2008 alongside cricketing stalwarts like Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, thanked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for giving him the opportunity to represent his country.
“I want to thank God for the path that has been made for me; the fans for their endless support; my parents and family for the sacrifices and confidence you’ve given me, especially during the injuries and lows,” Kaul wrote. He also expressed his gratitude to his teammates, recalling the memories and friendships built over the years in the dressing room.
Kaul, who made his debut for India in 2018, said that his journey had been a dream come true, having represented the country at the international level, especially earning his T20I and ODI caps. He also mentioned how his role in India’s 2008 U-19 World Cup win had shaped his career, offering a sense of fulfillment to have achieved his childhood dream.
Although Kaul is retiring from Indian cricket, he has left the door open to playing in overseas leagues, signaling that his love for the game remains intact. “I am open to playing in leagues abroad,” he stated, showing that his passion for cricket continues to burn brightly even as he steps away from domestic cricket.
Kaul's retirement marks the end of a career that spanned over a decade, during which he represented India and various IPL franchises with distinction. While his international career was relatively short, his consistency and skills as a bowler in the IPL made him a valued player in the T20 format. His retirement, following the IPL auction, has left fans and the cricketing community reflecting on his contributions to the sport.
Siddharth Kaul’s legacy will be remembered not just for his cricketing ability, but for his journey from the U-19 World Cup to playing for India, his role in IPL teams, and his contributions to the game. Fans, teammates, and cricket experts have all expressed their gratitude for Kaul’s efforts over the years, and while he may have hung up his boots in Indian cricket, his love for the game could lead him to further opportunities abroad.
