The National Bank Stadium is set to play a central role in the tournament, hosting three crucial matches, including the opening ceremony and the first match between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 19, 2025.

A five-member delegation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) has arrived in Pakistan to evaluate the nation’s preparedness for hosting the highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This visit marks another significant step in Pakistan’s preparations for one of cricket’s premier events, which will take place in just a few months.

The delegation, led by key ICC officials, conducted a thorough inspection of Karachi’s National Bank Stadium on Thursday. Their visit was centered on reviewing the progress of the ongoing renovations and infrastructure development at the stadium. The National Bank Stadium is set to play a central role in the tournament, hosting three crucial matches, including the opening ceremony and the first match between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 19, 2025.

During the inspection, PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) officials, alongside representatives from the construction company responsible for the renovations, briefed the ICC delegation on the advancements made. Arshad Khan, the General Manager of the National Bank Stadium, also provided insights into the work that has been done to modernize the venue.

One of the primary focuses of the ICC team was a five-story building under construction at the stadium. The delegation ensured that this new addition aligns with the high standards required for international cricket tournaments. Among the facilities they scrutinized were the media center, conference hall, and media gallery—key components for the smooth operation of the event. The team also took a close look at the older parts of the stadium, such as the dressing rooms, the Chairman’s Box, and the PCB Gallery, ensuring that these areas met the needs of players, media, and officials.

The National Bank Stadium is expected to be a focal point of Pakistan’s Champions Trophy campaign, and preparations are already in full swing. Before the tournament, the stadium will also host a tri-nation ODI series from February 12-14, 2025, featuring Pakistan, South Africa, and another team yet to be confirmed. This event will serve as a final test for the stadium's facilities before the Champions Trophy begins.

This visit is the fourth official inspection by the ICC ahead of the tournament. Previous visits, led by ICC Security Head David Mascro and other senior officials, focused on evaluating security measures, operational readiness, and broadcasting arrangements. These assessments have been integral to ensuring that Pakistan meets international standards for hosting the Champions Trophy.

With the tournament fast approaching and less than two months remaining until the start of the competition, the ICC delegation’s findings will play a pivotal role in shaping the final stages of Pakistan’s preparations. Their evaluations will help to identify any remaining areas of concern, and any recommendations will be acted upon swiftly to ensure the stadium and other facilities are fully prepared to host this prestigious international cricket event.

As the countdown to the Champions Trophy continues, Pakistan’s ability to meet the standards set by the ICC will be crucial in ensuring the tournament’s success. The ongoing evaluations and the work being done at the National Bank Stadium demonstrate the country’s commitment to hosting a world-class event and offering a memorable experience for both players and fans alike.
