The second Test match between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur may face significant weather disruptions, with AccuWeather forecasting a high chance of rain, especially in the early stages of the game. On Day 1 (Friday), there is a 93% probability of rain, while Day 2 (Saturday) also sees an 80% chance of showers. These forecasts suggest that both days are likely to experience delays, potentially affecting the start of play and causing early stumps on both days.
Dark clouds have already been covering the Green Park stadium in Kanpur, and rain was seen on Thursday (September 27), just a day before the match's scheduled start. The ground staff, on high alert, quickly covered the entire field. To be extra prepared, additional ground covers have been borrowed from the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) to deal with any heavy downpours.
AccuWeather’s prediction further suggests that Day 1 could experience thunderstorms, especially around midnight, early morning (5:00 AM), and later in the day between 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, and in the afternoon from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Continuous cloudy weather is expected throughout Friday, making it difficult for full play to happen. The second day (Saturday) also remains uncertain, with similar rainy conditions expected.
While a brief shower is possible on Day 3, the likelihood of rain decreases to around 59%, making play more feasible. The last two days of the match, Days 4 (Monday) and 5 (Tuesday), present a much better outlook for uninterrupted cricket, with just a 3% chance of rain on Day 4 and only 1% on the final day. Overcast conditions are expected to linger through the weekend, but the reduced chances of rain towards the end of the match give hope for extended play during the final phases of the Test.
Given the likelihood of rain and overcast conditions, fans and teams alike will be keeping a close eye on how the weather plays out in Kanpur, as it could heavily impact the outcome of this crucial match in the series.
