Indian women's cricket team wicketkeeper-batter Yastika Bhatia has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia Women due to a wrist injury. The All India Women's Selection Committee made the announcement on Wednesday, November 27, confirming that Bhatia will miss the crucial tour Down Under. The BCCI Medical Team has been closely monitoring her recovery, and after assessing her condition, it was decided that she will not be part of the squad for the series.
Bhatia, known for her solid performances with the bat and behind the stumps, has been a key player for the Indian team in recent years. However, the wrist injury has forced her to withdraw from the series, and her absence will be a significant blow to the team's middle-order stability and wicketkeeping options.
In a move to fill the gap left by Bhatia’s injury, the selectors have called up 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Uma Chetry as a replacement. Chetry made her India debut earlier this year in July and has featured in four T20I matches so far. She is now set to receive her maiden ODI call-up for the series against Australia, marking an exciting opportunity for the young talent to showcase her skills at the highest level.
Chetry’s call-up comes at a time when India is looking to strengthen their squad for the tour of Australia. The Indian team, led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, will be aiming to build on their recent performances and compete strongly against Australia, one of the top teams in women’s international cricket.
The squad for the Australia series was announced by the BCCI on November 19, with a few notable changes. Shafali Verma, one of India’s rising stars, was dropped from the squad following a lean patch with the bat in recent matches. Other players missing from the squad include all-rounder Shreyanka Patil, spinner Hemalatha, and all-rounder Sayali Satghare, all of whom were not selected for the tour.
India’s tour of Australia will be a critical series as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of upcoming global tournaments. With key players like Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, and Harmanpreet Kaur leading the charge, the team will be looking to bounce back strongly from any setbacks, including the absence of Yastika Bhatia.
As Bhatia focuses on her recovery, the Indian team will be hoping that Uma Chetry’s inclusion provides a fresh boost to the squad. With the series against Australia being an important one for India’s preparation and performance, all eyes will be on the team’s ability to adapt to the challenges posed by a strong Australian side.
