Jemimah Rodrigues’ maiden ODI century scripted a historic day for India Women as they posted their highest-ever ODI total of 370/5 and secured a series-clinching 116-run victory over Ireland in the second ODI at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot, on Sunday, January 12. The commanding win gave India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Opting to bat first, India’s innings was a batting masterclass featuring contributions from both experienced players and newcomers. Captain Smriti Mandhana laid the foundation with an explosive 73 off just 54 balls, smashing boundaries at will to give India a brisk start. Jemimah Rodrigues, batting at number five, anchored the innings with a sensational 102 off 91 deliveries, marking her first century in international cricket.

The batting fireworks didn’t end there. Harleen Deol’s composed 89 off 84 balls and debutant Pratika Rawal’s quickfire 67 off 61 ensured India finished with a formidable 370/5. It was a record-breaking total, surpassing their previous best of 358/2 against Ireland in 2017.

Chasing 371, Ireland showed resilience but never looked in control against India’s disciplined bowling. Christina Coulter Reilly was the standout performer for Ireland, scoring a valiant 80. However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled to accelerate as the required run rate climbed. Ireland finished at 254/7 in their allotted 50 overs.

India’s bowlers were clinical, led by off-spinner Deepti Sharma, who returned impressive figures of 3/37. Titas Sadhu (1/48), Sayali Satghare (1/40), and Priya Mishra (2/53) chipped in with crucial wickets, ensuring Ireland never posed a serious threat.

Jemimah Rodrigues was named Player of the Match for her stellar century, a milestone she described as a moment of relief.

"I feel relieved," Rodrigues said during the post-match presentation. "I’ve scored a lot in domestic cricket, but my roles in the team have varied, especially with more T20 games. I focused on batting like I do in domestic matches and staying patient. Batting at number five, I knew I had to time my innings carefully. My batting partner took charge when needed, and our understanding from playing together helped us build a strong partnership."

India’s dominant performance showcased their growing strength in women’s cricket, both in batting depth and bowling versatility. With the series already sealed, the team will look to continue their momentum in the final ODI and build on their remarkable form.
