India’s Under-19 cricket team delivered a dominant batting performance in the ICC U19 World Cup 2026 final against England, powered by a sensational innings from opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The young batter smashed a breathtaking 175 runs, dismantling the England bowling attack and giving India a strong upper hand in the championship match played at the Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe.

Winning the toss, India U19 captain Ayush Mhatre elected to bat first on a good surface. However, the innings began with an early setback as in-form opener Aaron George was dismissed for 9 runs off 11 balls, falling to Alex Green in the fourth over. Despite the early loss, India quickly regained momentum through a commanding partnership between Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and captain Ayush Mhatre.

Sooryavanshi showcased fearless stroke play from the outset, punishing loose deliveries and consistently clearing the boundary. He reached his century in just 55 balls, setting a new benchmark in U19 World Cup finals. His innings was a blend of power and precision, as he struck 15 fours and 15 sixes during his 80-ball stay at the crease.

The right-handed batter found strong support from skipper Ayush Mhatre, who played a composed knock of 53 runs from 51 balls. Together, the duo stitched a crucial 142-run partnership that completely shifted the momentum in India’s favour. At the end of the powerplay, India had raced to 79 for 1, putting early pressure on the England bowlers.

England struggled to contain the flow of runs as Sooryavanshi continued to attack both pace and spin. Bowlers were rotated frequently, but none could find an effective answer to his aggressive approach. The innings eventually came to an end when Manny Lumsden dismissed Sooryavanshi, but by then the damage had already been done.

Soon after his dismissal, another setback followed for India as Vihaan Malhotra was removed cheaply, giving England a brief opening. However, India’s overall batting effort had already laid a solid foundation for a formidable total.

England U19, led by Thomas Rew, faced a challenging task after conceding heavily in the middle overs. Their bowlers found little assistance from the pitch as India’s batters capitalised on scoring opportunities. The final is expected to hinge on whether England can mount a strong response to India’s imposing total.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s innings is being hailed as one of the finest performances in U19 World Cup history. His fearless approach under pressure and ability to dominate a high-stakes final have drawn praise from former players and cricket experts.

As the match progresses, India U19 will look to maintain their intensity and push for another world title, while England aim to regroup and fight back in the contest.
