Day 1 of the highly anticipated first Test match between India and New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was called off due to relentless rain. The weather conditions have been less than ideal, with persistent drizzles causing considerable disruptions, making it challenging for the ground staff to prepare the pitch adequately for play. The situation deteriorated further when heavy rainfall set in around 2:30 PM, leading to the official abandonment of the day’s play.
Prior to the cancellation, the groundsmen faced significant difficulties managing the intermittent drizzle. The pitch had been covered for several days due to ongoing rain, which meant that when the covers were finally removed, it was discovered that damp patches were present around the playing area, complicating the preparations for a competitive match. Commentary from Saba Karim indicated that the technical setup for the HawkEye system required about another hour and a half before it could be fully operational, underscoring the challenges posed by the weather.
In response to the lost time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced revised session timings for Day 2 of the Test match. The toss is now scheduled for 8:45 AM IST, with play expected to commence at 9:15 AM IST, provided that there are no further weather-related delays. To maximize the time available for play, the BCCI has structured the day as follows:
- Morning session: 9:15 AM to 11:30 AM
- Afternoon session: 12:10 PM to 2:25 PM
- Evening session: 2:45 PM to 4:45 PM
With the pitch having been under covers for an extended period and overcast conditions prevailing, both teams are likely to favor a bowling lineup that includes three pace bowlers. For India, the combination of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep is highly anticipated, as the team looks to capitalize on the conditions. New Zealand will also be keen to deploy a strong bowling attack, making the competition between the two sides even more intriguing.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the match to commence, hoping for favorable weather conditions that will allow for an exciting day of cricket. The rivalry between India and New Zealand adds an extra layer of excitement to the encounter, with both teams looking to establish their dominance early in the series.
