In the IPL 2025 auction, franchises spent a total of ₹639.15 crore to secure 182 players, with some teams opting for bold investments, while others focused on strategic, value-based buys. The biggest spenders were Punjab Kings (PBKS), who used their largest auction purse of ₹110.15 crore to sign 23 players, making them the most active team in the market. Their significant buys included marquee players like Shreyas Iyer (₹26.75 crore) and Arshdeep Singh (₹18 crore), demonstrating their aggressive approach to building a well-rounded squad.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) spent ₹82.25 crore on 19 players, striking a balance between high-value signings and cost-effective acquisitions. They made a notable purchase with Phil Salt for ₹11.50 crore, while Josh Hazlewood (₹12.50 crore) was their most expensive acquisition. RCB’s strategy of targeting both marquee names and base-price buys was evident in their diverse set of acquisitions.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) followed a similar pattern, focusing on all-rounders and squad depth. With ₹68.90 crore, they secured 19 players, including the standout buy of Rishabh Pant for ₹27 crore, making him the most expensive player of the auction. LSG’s method of mixing big buys with budget-friendly players helped them strengthen their squad across all departments.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) adopted a more measured approach, spending ₹54.95 crore to sign 20 players. While they didn’t break the bank, CSK focused on key areas of need, including a critical purchase of Yuzvendra Chahal for ₹18 crore. Their strategy was to ensure the team remained balanced without overspending, which also reflected their reputation for making intelligent, low-risk acquisitions.

Delhi Capitals (DC) were another team that went for some high-profile signings, including expensive buys like David Warner and Kagiso Rabada, adding depth and experience to their squad. They spent ₹72.80 crore on 19 players, carefully filling gaps with a mix of experienced players and emerging talent. Their targeted approach allowed them to retain a strong core of match-winners while adding depth in key areas.

Mumbai Indians (MI), known for their astute spending, operated on a limited budget of ₹44.80 crore, securing 18 players. Despite bidding for 34 players, MI stuck to a more focused approach, picking up smart, cost-effective acquisitions. Their biggest spend was on Venkatesh Iyer, bought for ₹23.75 crore. MI also brought back several players from the IPL 2024 winning contingent, including Vaibhav Arora and Angkrish Raghuvanshi.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) followed a similar path to MI, focusing on value signings and targeting experienced players like Andre Russell, spending ₹50.95 crore to buy 15 players. Their notable acquisition was Venkatesh Iyer, whom they bought for ₹23.75 crore, reflecting their strategy of retaining some key players while also targeting newer talent.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) made fewer but focused acquisitions, spending ₹44.80 crore on 15 players. They focused on bolstering their squad with budget buys like Ishan Kishan (₹11.25 crore) and Mohammed Shami (₹10 crore). SRH’s strategy was to balance affordability with potential, building a strong squad for the season ahead.

Lastly, Rajasthan Royals (RR) adopted a more selective strategy, buying just 14 players for ₹40.70 crore. They focused on quality over quantity, securing some key acquisitions, including the youngest player in IPL auction history, 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, bought for ₹1.10 crore. RR’s approach was a blend of nurturing young talent and securing the right mix of experience and depth.

Overall, the IPL 2025 auction showcased a variety of strategies. Punjab Kings were the biggest spenders, while Mumbai Indians maintained their reputation for shrewd acquisitions. Other franchises, such as RCB, LSG, and CSK, also made strong moves to bolster their squads, highlighting the growing importance of strategic planning and smart investment in building competitive teams for the upcoming season.
