The IPL 2025 Mega Auction is set to feature 574 players, with the auction scheduled for November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recently announced the final list, which was carefully trimmed down from an initial pool of 1574 registered players based on input from IPL franchises. This auction will see both seasoned IPL stars and promising new talents from India and abroad go under the hammer.
Out of the 574 players, 366 are Indian, with a large portion of them being uncapped players—318 in total. Among the Indian players, there are 48 capped stars, including big names like Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer, who have been retained as key figures in the IPL but are now available for bidding after their franchises did not retain them. Additionally, the list also includes some uncapped Indian players who have featured in previous IPL seasons, making the Indian pool diverse and competitive.
The international player list is equally impressive, with 208 overseas players from 13 countries. This includes 3 players from Associate nations, showcasing the growing international appeal of the IPL. Australia and England lead the list with 37 players each, and these two nations will be represented by some of the biggest names in world cricket. Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Glenn Maxwell, and Mitchell Starc are among the star players that will attract significant attention in the auction.
Players from other cricketing nations like Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and Ireland also feature prominently. Afghanistan has 18 players on the list, while Bangladesh contributes 12 players. Notably, countries like South Africa (31 players), Sri Lanka (19 players), and the West Indies (22 players) are also well represented, underlining the IPL’s global reach. Additionally, new entrants from the USA and Scotland bring a unique flavor to the auction.
The diversity in the player pool is reflective of the IPL’s continued growth as one of the most lucrative and competitive cricket leagues in the world. The auction will not only highlight established stars but also present opportunities for emerging talent to make their mark on one of the sport's biggest stages. With a mix of international and domestic players, the IPL 2025 Mega Auction promises to be an exciting event as franchises look to bolster their squads for the upcoming season.
