As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season moves into its decisive phase, several teams are reshuffling their squads due to injuries and availability issues. In a significant development, Delhi Capitals (DC) have confirmed that veteran South African batter Faf du Plessis and Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman will be joining the team as official replacements.
Major Reinforcements for Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals have struggled with consistency this season, prompting the management to seek experienced international players to bring balance to the side. The addition of Du Plessis, who brings with him years of IPL and international experience, is seen as a crucial move to stabilize the top order. Mustafizur Rahman, known for his deceptive slower deliveries and death over control, is expected to strengthen DC’s bowling attack.
Both players are expected to be available for selection in the upcoming fixtures. Their inclusion comes at a time when several DC players are recovering from injuries or are unavailable due to national commitments.
Official Confirmation and Player Replacements
According to IPL sources and team insiders, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has approved these replacements. The names of the outgoing players have not yet been disclosed officially, but it is likely that they are being replaced due to injuries or form concerns.
Du Plessis has previously led Royal Challengers Bangalore and played for Chennai Super Kings, delivering consistent performances across seasons. Mustafizur has represented various IPL franchises and has a reputation for delivering crucial breakthroughs.
DC’s Position and Strategy
Delhi Capitals are currently in a mid-table position and are fighting hard to stay in playoff contention. With limited games left in the league phase, the franchise hopes that the experience and skill set of Du Plessis and Mustafizur can help turn the tide in their favor. The team is also likely to tweak its strategy and playing XI based on the match-ups and conditions.
Reactions from Team Management
A source close to the DC management stated, “We needed players who could deliver under pressure, and both Faf and Mustafizur have shown their value in previous IPL seasons. Their presence will bring depth to our squad and tactical flexibility.”
Other Squad Updates Across Teams
Apart from Delhi Capitals, several franchises are also making adjustments to their squads. Injuries and international duties have led to a flurry of changes across teams, keeping the IPL 2025 season dynamic and unpredictable.
What Fans Can Expect
Fans can look forward to seeing Du Plessis open the innings or play a stabilizing role in the middle order, while Mustafizur will likely be used during the powerplay and death overs. The upcoming matches are expected to be high-stakes encounters, and these additions could prove decisive for Delhi Capitals.
