The Indian Premier League Mini Auction 2026 is taking place in Abu Dhabi on December 16, drawing significant attention as franchises look to finalise their squads ahead of the upcoming season. With only 77 slots to be filled from a pool of 369 players, teams are making targeted investments to address specific requirements.
Kolkata Knight Riders have been the standout franchise so far, making major signings early in the auction. Australian all rounder Cameron Green became the most expensive player of the auction after KKR secured his services for ₹25.20 crore. The franchise further strengthened its bowling attack by signing Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana for ₹18 crore. KKR also added Finn Allen for ₹2 crore, indicating a focus on both power hitting and pace bowling.
Rajasthan Royals made a key move by acquiring Indian leg spinner Ravi Bishnoi for ₹7.20 crore. Bishnoi is expected to play a crucial role in the middle overs, adding depth to Rajasthan’s bowling unit. Royal Challengers Bengaluru signed Venkatesh Iyer for ₹7 crore and Jacob Duffy for ₹2 crore, bolstering their all round and pace options.
Several other notable signings were completed during the auction. Delhi Capitals brought in David Miller for ₹2 crore and Ben Duckett for ₹2 crore. Lucknow Super Giants picked up Wanindu Hasaranga and Anrich Nortje for ₹2 crore each, strengthening their spin and pace departments. Mumbai Indians signed Quinton de Kock for ₹1 crore, while Chennai Super Kings added Akeal Hosein for ₹2 crore.
The auction features 244 Indian and 115 overseas players, with franchises operating under varying purse limits. KKR and CSK entered the auction with the highest remaining budgets, while Sunrisers Hyderabad also retained a sizeable purse of ₹25.5 crore to fill ten remaining slots.
IPL analysts had predicted Cameron Green to attract big bids, and the auction outcome reflected strong demand for proven all rounders and match winners. International players like Liam Livingstone and Jake Fraser McGurk were also among the names generating interest, while Indian players continued to command significant value.
Franchises are balancing experience with youth as they shape squads capable of performing across a long tournament. With limited slots remaining, teams are expected to focus on backup options, uncapped players and specific skill sets.
The IPL Auction 2026 is being live streamed on the JioHotstar app and website from 2:30 PM IST. Television viewers in India can watch the proceedings live on the Star Sports Network.
As the auction progresses, further updates on sold and unsold players, remaining purse values and final squad compositions are expected to shape preparations for the upcoming IPL season.
