In the Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2024 auction held on Thursday, August 29, Urbanrisers Hyderabad made a significant mark by acquiring 10 players as they set their sights on clinching the trophy after finishing as runner-ups in the previous season. Under the leadership of their champion skipper, Suresh Raina, the team is poised to make a strong challenge this year.
Hyderabad opted to retain key players from their previous squad, including the talented Gurkeerat Singh, the experienced Suresh Raina, and former England all-rounder Peter Trego, ensuring that they maintain a solid core as they look to improve on last season's performance.
Among their new acquisitions, the standout signing was West Indies wicketkeeper Chadwick Walton, for whom the team spent an impressive Rs 60.3 lakhs. Walton brings a wealth of international experience and has been a prominent figure in several Caribbean Premier League (CPL) teams, adding depth and skill to the Urbanrisers’ lineup.
Additionally, Hyderabad went all out to secure Sri Lankan fast bowler Isuru Udana, who is known for his match-winning abilities and has previously made significant contributions while playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Udana's inclusion adds pace and versatility to the bowling attack, enhancing their competitive edge.
The Urbanrisers also welcomed Stuart Binny, a handy all-rounder with a noteworthy history, including a remarkable six-wicket haul against Bangladesh in an ODI back in 2014. Binny’s experience and all-round capabilities will be vital for the team as they navigate the challenges of the tournament.
With a mix of retained talent and new signings, Urbanrisers Hyderabad looks well-equipped for the LLC 2024 season. The combination of seasoned players and dynamic newcomers under Raina’s captaincy promises an exciting journey as they aim to lift the trophy and establish themselves as a dominant force in the league. As the season approaches, fans will eagerly anticipate how this revamped squad will perform on the field.
