Mohammed Shami has responded sharply to former India cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar after Manjrekar made remarks about Shami’s IPL 2025 auction price. The Indian pacer, who is returning to competitive cricket after a lengthy injury layoff, is set to be part of the upcoming IPL auction after being released by Gujarat Titans. Despite his recent return to cricket, where he impressed with a stellar performance in the Ranji Trophy, taking 7 wickets in a match, Shami’s fitness remains a point of concern for some.
Manjrekar, analyzing the auction dynamics, predicted that Shami’s price in the mega auction would be lower due to his injury history, particularly the recent long recovery period. On Star Sports, he mentioned, “There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami’s injury history—especially this recent one, which took a significant amount of time to recover from—there’s always the concern of a potential breakdown during the season.”
However, Shami did not take kindly to Manjrekar’s comments. The 34-year-old bowler took to Instagram to mock the former India batter and pundit. In a sarcastic post, Shami wrote, “Baba Ki Jay Hoooo. Thoda sa gyan apne future ke liye bhi bacha lo, kaam aayega Sanjay G. Kisi ko future jaana ho toh sir se mile” (Glory to Baba Ji. Save a little wisdom for your own future, Mr. Sanjay, it might come in handy. If anyone wants to know their future, contact Baba Ji).
Shami’s Instagram post was a clear jab at Manjrekar, suggesting that the pundit should focus more on his own future rather than commenting on others'. The exchange highlights the tension between the two, with Shami making it clear that he wasn’t bothered by Manjrekar’s critical remarks.
