Although the official retention list has yet to be confirmed, it has been revealed that Dhoni will be retained for ₹4 crore, a figure established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for retaining uncapped players.

Former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni is all set to don the yellow jersey once again as he prepares to play for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Despite facing injury setbacks and undergoing knee surgery shortly after IPL 2024, Dhoni is committed to maintaining a rigorous fitness regimen to ensure he is available for the tournament.

According to sources close to Dhoni, the CSK management is keen to retain him as an uncapped player ahead of the retention list deadline. Although the official retention list has yet to be confirmed, it has been revealed that Dhoni will be retained for ₹4 crore, a figure established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for retaining uncapped players. This is possible because Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2019, making him eligible for this classification under the latest IPL rules.

Currently, Dhoni is training diligently at the JSCA Training Centre in Ranchi and has reportedly achieved full fitness ahead of the IPL season. At 43 years old, he is expected to play a few matches as an Impact Player, primarily focusing on his batting skills. This decision reflects an understanding of his age and previous injury challenges while still allowing him to contribute significantly to the team's performance.

Dhoni's legacy with CSK is remarkable; he has led the franchise to five IPL title victories, with the most recent triumph occurring in IPL 2023. While Ruturaj Gaikwad was appointed as captain last season, Dhoni's influence on the team remains substantial, both on and off the field. His leadership and experience continue to inspire both teammates and fans alike.

In addition to Dhoni's retention, CSK is also looking to secure young Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana and extend the contract of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, further solidifying their roster for the upcoming season. As fans eagerly anticipate Dhoni's return to the IPL, the excitement surrounding CSK and their journey in IPL 2025 continues to grow, highlighting Dhoni's enduring impact on the franchise and the sport itself.
