Nandani Sharma produced a historic performance during the 2026 Women’s Premier League (WPL), announcing herself on the big stage with a sensational bowling display against Gujarat Giants. The uncapped Indian fast bowler achieved the rare feat during the Delhi Capitals versus Gujarat Giants match held in Navi Mumbai, creating a moment that will be remembered as one of the standout highlights of the tournament.
Playing just her second match in the WPL, Nandani Sharma delivered a stunning spell, finishing with a five-wicket haul that included a hat-trick. Her achievement made her the first player in WPL history to claim both a five-for and a hat-trick in the same match. The performance not only turned the game in Delhi Capitals’ favour but also underlined the depth of emerging talent in Indian women’s cricket.
Nandani’s breakthrough came at a crucial stage of the innings, when Gujarat Giants were looking to build momentum. She struck with pace, accuracy, and composure beyond her experience, dismantling the opposition’s batting order. The hat-trick drew loud applause from the crowd and immediate recognition from commentators and former players, who hailed the spell as one of the finest by a newcomer in the league.
What makes the achievement even more remarkable is that Nandani entered the tournament with limited top-level experience. Despite the pressure of playing alongside established international stars, she displayed confidence and control, executing her plans with precision. Her performance overshadowed several seasoned players on the field, highlighting the impact a young player can make on a major stage.
Delhi Capitals’ team management praised Nandani’s discipline and mental strength, noting that her preparation and hard work paid off when it mattered most. Teammates also acknowledged her contribution, crediting her spell as a turning point in the match.
The Women’s Premier League has been instrumental in providing young cricketers with a platform to showcase their talent, and Nandani Sharma’s performance is a prime example of the league’s growing influence. Her spell is expected to boost her prospects for future selections, including possible consideration for national duties.
As the WPL 2026 season progresses, Nandani Sharma’s name is likely to remain a talking point. Her historic feat not only adds a new record to the league’s history books but also serves as inspiration for aspiring cricketers across the country.
