Amelia Kerr of New Zealand and Noman Ali of Pakistan have been named the ICC Player of the Month for October 2024, with both players delivering exceptional performances for their respective teams.
Kerr, the all-rounder, was a standout performer in New Zealand's triumphant campaign at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE. Her contributions with both bat and ball were pivotal in guiding the White Ferns to their first-ever T20 World Cup title. Throughout the tournament, Kerr showcased her remarkable versatility, amassing 160 runs and claiming 19 wickets, including a record-breaking 15 wickets in the competition.
Kerr's performances in key matches stood out, particularly her efforts against Australia (29 runs and 4 wickets), Sri Lanka (34 runs and 2 wickets), and Pakistan (3 wickets for 14 runs). In the semi-final against the West Indies, she took 2 wickets for 14 runs to help New Zealand secure a spot in the final. In the final, she once again rose to the occasion, top-scoring with 43 runs from 38 balls on a challenging pitch, before taking 3 wickets for 24 runs to help New Zealand win the title. Following the World Cup, Kerr continued her fine form in India, where she took 4 wickets in an ODI series, capping off an outstanding month.
For Noman Ali, his performances were instrumental in Pakistan’s successful Test series win over England at home. The left-arm spinner played a key role in Pakistan's comeback victory, claiming crucial wickets and providing stability to the bowling attack. Noman’s strong performances in the ICC World Test Championship were recognized with his selection as the ICC Men's Player of the Month.
Both Kerr and Noman were selected through a voting process involving global cricket fans and a specialist panel comprising ICC Hall of Famers, former international players, and media representatives. Kerr, who faced stiff competition from Deandra Dottin and Laura Wolvaardt, claimed the Women’s Player of the Month award for the second time, having previously won it in February 2022. Noman emerged victorious in the men’s category, edging out prominent contenders such as Kagiso Rabada and Mitchell Santner.
Their impressive contributions to their teams' successes make them deserving recipients of the October 2024 ICC Player of the Month awards, marking a memorable month for both players in the international cricketing landscape.
