A moment of high tension and concern unfolded during the 3rd One Day International (ODI) match when Pakistan's top-order batsman Imam-ul-Haq was struck on the head by a rising delivery. The incident occurred in the early stages of Pakistan’s innings, causing immediate panic among players and viewers as the left-hander collapsed and signaled discomfort.
The ball, delivered at sharp pace, appeared to bounce more than expected, striking Imam on the helmet’s upper side. Although initially trying to remain composed, Imam sat down on the ground shortly after impact. Medical staff rushed in, and within minutes, he was stretchered off and taken to a waiting ambulance, which quickly left the stadium for a nearby hospital.
The shocking visuals left teammates visibly shaken, with players from both sides pausing the game out of concern. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released a brief statement confirming that Imam-ul-Haq was conscious and responsive, and was taken for precautionary scans to assess the extent of the injury.
Cricket experts and former players expressed support for Imam on social media, highlighting the importance of strict safety protocols, even with the latest helmet technologies in place. Several cricketers, including Pakistan captain Babar Azam, have visited Imam at the hospital following the incident.
Imam-ul-Haq, a key figure in Pakistan’s batting lineup, has consistently delivered solid performances and was expected to play a crucial role in the series decider. His injury not only disrupted Pakistan’s batting strategy but also dampened the atmosphere of the match.
