Ahmedabad:
In a landmark achievement for Indian cricket, Rajat Patidar has made history by becoming the first player to score a century in both an IPL playoff match and a final, making him a standout performer of the ongoing IPL 2025 season. His explosive batting display for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has not only propelled his team into the limelight but also earned him global recognition.
Patidar, who rose to prominence during the 2022 season, has consistently proven his ability to perform under high-pressure situations. His century in the eliminator match stunned fans and critics alike, but it was his clinical ton in the grand final that cemented his place in IPL history. Patidar smashed boundaries all over the park, displaying finesse, aggression, and composure in equal measure.
The achievement is unprecedented in the 17-year history of the IPL, making Patidar the only cricketer to ever record hundreds in both a playoff and a final—two of the most crucial fixtures in the tournament. Cricket experts have hailed his performance as a masterclass in temperament and skill, especially given the intense pressure and expectations.
Social media erupted in celebration, with fans and former cricketers praising Patidar’s incredible feat. Former Indian captain Virat Kohli called him “a big match player in every sense,” while Sunil Gavaskar described the innings as “a defining moment for Indian domestic talent.”
RCB’s head coach also credited Patidar’s work ethic and mental resilience. “He’s a player who thrives in crunch situations. What he did today will be remembered for years,” the coach said at the post-match press conference.
With this achievement, Patidar has not only elevated his status in Indian cricket but also positioned himself as a strong contender for a regular spot in the national team. As the IPL season wraps up, his historic performance will remain one of its brightest highlights.
