Sanju Samson, a prominent figure in Indian cricket and a key player in the T20 format, has officially joined a new Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise following the 2025 season. The announcement marks the end of his long and successful stint with Rajasthan Royals, where he served as captain and a top-order batter for several years.
Samson has been one of the most consistent performers in the IPL, known for his ability to anchor innings and accelerate the scoring when required. Over the past few seasons, he emerged as a reliable leader for the Royals and played a pivotal role in nurturing young talent. Despite individual brilliance, the team had mixed performances in recent years, which may have influenced the decision for a change.
While the name of the new franchise has not yet been officially disclosed, sources close to the development have indicated that a team looking to strengthen its leadership group and batting depth has signed Samson for the upcoming season. An official announcement regarding the deal is expected soon, along with details of his role and responsibilities within the new team.
The transfer comes at a time when teams are undergoing major reshuffles ahead of the 2026 IPL auction. Many franchises are looking to rebuild around experienced Indian players who can offer stability, performance, and leadership. Sanju Samson, with his proven IPL record and experience in international cricket, fits that profile well.
Beyond the IPL, Samson has also been part of India’s T20I and ODI squads. Although his international appearances have been intermittent, he remains in contention for selection, especially in white-ball formats. His technique, ability to handle pressure, and flexibility to bat in different positions make him a valuable asset.
Cricket analysts have welcomed the move, stating that a new environment may give Samson the opportunity to redefine his game and possibly take on a fresh leadership role. The franchise acquiring him is likely to benefit from his experience and calm approach under pressure, both on and off the field.
Supporters of Sanju Samson have expressed excitement across social media platforms, anticipating a new beginning for their favourite player. Many believe that the change in franchise could help him unlock his full potential and contribute to a more successful campaign in the upcoming IPL season.
The franchise that signed him is expected to make significant structural and strategic changes ahead of the 2026 season, and Samson's inclusion could be central to that transition. Whether he will take on captaincy duties or play a mentoring role remains to be seen.
As the cricketing world awaits the official unveiling, all eyes will be on how Sanju Samson performs in his new colours and what impact he brings to his new team in the next edition of the Indian Premier League.
