Former India captain and legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar has heaped praise on young cricketing sensation Shubman Gill, calling him an "amalgam" of three of India’s most iconic captains — Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and MS Dhoni. According to Gavaskar, the 24-year-old has already shown leadership traits and cricketing intelligence that reflect the influence of these cricketing stalwarts.

Speaking during a recent interview, Gavaskar emphasized that Gill possesses a rare combination of skills and mindset that make him stand out not only as a top-order batsman but also as a leader in the making. Gavaskar noted that Gill shows the aggressive intent of Virat Kohli, the calm approach of Rohit Sharma, and the decision-making clarity of MS Dhoni.

Gavaskar elaborated that Gill’s body language on the field exudes confidence and composure, traits typically associated with successful captains. Despite his youth, Gill has already been entrusted with captaincy duties for his Indian Premier League franchise, Gujarat Titans, and has handled the responsibility with notable maturity.

Gill’s performances in recent months have further strengthened his reputation as one of India’s most reliable and technically sound batsmen. With multiple centuries in international cricket, including in Tests and ODIs, he has emerged as a key player across all formats. His temperament under pressure and ability to adapt to different conditions have drawn admiration from fans and former players alike.

Sunil Gavaskar highlighted a particular quality that sets Gill apart: his calm demeanor even during high-stakes situations. Much like Rohit Sharma, Gill does not let emotions dictate his decisions on the field. Simultaneously, his passion and drive, reminiscent of Kohli’s early years, push him to constantly improve and lead by example.

Gavaskar also mentioned Gill’s off-field discipline and work ethic, which align closely with what MS Dhoni was known for throughout his career. Dhoni’s ability to remain composed and execute plans effectively even under intense pressure is a trait Gavaskar believes Gill is beginning to exhibit.

The former cricketer believes that if nurtured properly, Gill could soon become a natural choice for captaincy in the Indian team. While India currently has established leaders in Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, the emergence of young players like Gill opens up strong possibilities for the future leadership structure.

Many cricketing experts agree that India will eventually transition leadership to younger players, and Gill’s rise could coincide with that change. His performances with the bat, combined with his evolving leadership qualities, make him a strong contender for a long-term role in the team’s leadership group.

In a cricketing landscape that continues to evolve with new formats and young talent, Shubman Gill stands out as a player who bridges tradition and modernity — much like the three captains he is being compared to.
