Former England captain Michael Vaughan was critical of Suryakumar Yadav's approach during India's chase of 172 in the third T20I against England. Despite India losing early wickets, Yadav stuck to his ultra-aggressive style and was dismissed cheaply for 14 while attempting a trademark flick shot off Mark Wood in the final over of the powerplay.
Vaughan expressed his frustration with Yadav’s decision-making, pointing out that it wasn’t the right situation for such aggression. He remarked that while being aggressive is important, it is essential to pick the right deliveries to attack. Vaughan further added that India needed their best players in form, and Yadav's repeated failures were holding the team back.
"Only way the players get into good form is by spending time in the middle," Vaughan said, criticizing Yadav for failing to contribute with significant innings. Yadav has struggled for form since becoming India’s captain post-T20 World Cup, scoring just two fifties in 13 matches and failing to reach double figures in five games.
Vaughan suggested that the chase of 172 wasn’t overwhelming, and Yadav could have slowed down his aggressive approach, giving himself a better chance to settle in. He highlighted that India’s target was reasonable, and it was the perfect opportunity for Yadav to adjust his mindset, shift gears, and build an innings.
