Suryakumar Yadav's rapid rise in Indian cricket has been nothing short of extraordinary. From making his debut at age 30 to taking over as India's T20I captain within just three years, Yadav's journey has been a topic of admiration among cricket experts. On Star Sports' "Deep Point," former cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar and Sanjay Bangar analyzed Yadav's impressive progression, with both offering insights into his rise to the top.
Manjrekar, who has been a vocal supporter of Yadav, reflected on his early days in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He recalled how Yadav, while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), had a limited repertoire of shots. "He used to play for KKR, and I remember he had just two shots. He would flick the ball on the first delivery, no matter where it landed," Manjrekar noted. However, Manjrekar also acknowledged the incredible growth Yadav has shown. "Who would have predicted that he would go on to become the best T20I batter in the world?" he added.
Sanjay Bangar, another expert on the show, emphasized Yadav's unique batting style and his ability to adapt to various match situations. He praised Yadav's proactive approach to batting, saying, "It takes a lot of imagination, courage, and the ability to anticipate where the ball is coming from before it's even bowled—that's his hallmark." Bangar also discussed how Yadav's flexibility on the field enables him to stay ahead of bowlers. "During the Asia Cup, we analyzed how, when bowlers try to adjust their deliveries, Surya still has another option to punish them. His ability to react to a delivery is amazing," Bangar remarked.
Yadav's growth has captured the cricketing world’s attention, and his appointment as T20I captain is a testament to his influence on the game. His journey from a lower-order player at KKR to India's premier T20I batter and captain showcases his dedication, adaptability, and talent.
