Yashasvi Jaiswal has continued his remarkable rise in international cricket, making a significant impact during the ongoing first Test between India and Bangladesh at Chepauk, Chennai. By scoring 50 runs in this match, Jaiswal has solidified his position as the second-highest run-scorer of 2024.
The match began with Bangladesh's captain winning the toss and opting to bowl first, a choice that initially seemed to pay off as India lost several key wickets. Early dismissals of captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant left the Indian innings in a precarious position. However, Jaiswal's steadfast performance at the crease played a crucial role in stabilizing the Indian side. His innings of 56 runs was instrumental in providing some much-needed stability to the team.
Jaiswal's performance throughout 2024 has been exceptional. He has consistently delivered impressive innings, earning him the title of one of India's standout performers this year. With nearly 800 runs to his name so far, he has become India’s most reliable Test batsman. His current tally of 796 runs from just seven matches, including today's innings, reflects an outstanding average of 72.36. This remarkable performance further underscores Jaiswal’s importance to the Indian batting lineup and highlights his significant contribution to the team’s success in 2024.
