Kostecki had previously missed the start of the season due to behind-the-scenes drama, which raised questions about the team's stability.

CCTV footage has emerged regarding the alleged attack on an Erebus engineer during the Bathurst 1000, revealing that the incident involved only one individual and contradicting initial reports of multiple aggressors. The incident, which occurred during a weekend filled with racing excitement, has since taken center stage in media coverage, overshadowing the team’s impressive victory in the race.

The Erebus team, which celebrated its win through driver Brodie Kostecki and co-driver Todd Hazelwood, was in the spotlight for more than just their racing performance. Following the alleged attack, Kostecki expressed his disappointment during an appearance on Monday's Sunrise program on the Seven Network. He stated, "One of our crew members was unfortunately attacked last night. It's really disappointing and has cast a shadow over the evening. We wish Sam a speedy recovery, along with his partner, Tameika."

Initially, reports indicated that the engineer involved in the incident was hospitalized after being attacked by three men. However, the newly released CCTV footage aired on a Seven News Central West bulletin depicted a different scenario. The footage captured a young man striking himself in the face repeatedly before collapsing to the ground, with a woman following closely behind him. This evidence painted a stark contrast to the earlier claims of an organized attack.

Following the incident, police confirmed that the individual involved has since been discharged from the hospital. They are currently conducting an ongoing investigation but have expressed confidence that no attack took place, suggesting that the incident may have been misunderstood or misreported.

This situation adds to an already turbulent year for the Erebus team. Kostecki had previously missed the start of the season due to behind-the-scenes drama, which raised questions about the team's stability. Nevertheless, Kostecki and Hazelwood’s victory in the Great Race has brought a much-needed boost to the team’s morale. This win marked Erebus's first triumph in the Bathurst 1000 since 2017, when David Reynolds and Luke Youlden claimed victory.

As the investigation into the incident continues, the Erebus team will likely focus on building momentum from their recent success on the track. The juxtaposition of their racing achievements and the unfortunate events off the track serves as a reminder of the challenges teams face both in competition and in maintaining a positive image within the motorsport community.
