A win in the sprint race would guarantee him the championship, but he can also secure the title with a finish as low as eighth, provided he maintains a lead of at least 26 points going into Sunday's main event.

Jorge Martin is on the verge of clinching his first MotoGP world title, with the opportunity to secure the championship as early as the Barcelona Grand Prix sprint race on Saturday. The Pramac Ducati rider has been in sensational form throughout the 2024 season and finds himself in a strong position heading into the final weekend of the season.

Currently leading the championship standings with 485 points, Martin holds a 24-point advantage over his nearest rival, Francesco Bagnaia, who sits in second place with 461 points. The title will come down to the Barcelona GP after heavy flooding in Valencia forced the event to be moved to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

For Martin to seal the title in Saturday's sprint race, he needs to outscore Bagnaia by just two points. A win in the sprint race would guarantee him the championship, but he can also secure the title with a finish as low as eighth, provided he maintains a lead of at least 26 points going into Sunday's main event. If Martin’s lead is reduced to 25 points, Bagnaia's stronger track record of 10 grand prix wins in 2024 would keep him in contention, though Martin has excelled in sprint races, which could be the deciding factor.

With a total of 37 points up for grabs across the weekend, the Barcelona GP presents a high-stakes opportunity for Martin to make history. After coming close to the title in 2023, this could be the moment the Spaniard has been waiting for, as he aims to avenge his previous defeat and secure the coveted MotoGP world championship. All eyes will be on Martin as he takes the next step toward realizing his dream of becoming the 2024 MotoGP champion.
