The victory cemented the Lancers' position as one of the most formidable teams in the HIL, with their all-around team effort showcasing their potential to go far in the tournament.

In a spectacular performance at the Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela, the Kalinga Lancers cruised to a dominant 5-1 victory over the Delhi SG Pipers in their Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25 encounter. The Lancers, playing in front of their home crowd, put on an impressive display of attacking prowess and defensive solidity, sealing the win with an all-around team effort.

The match got off to a thrilling start, with the Lancers taking the lead in the 11th minute through an early goal from Nicholas Bandurak. The opening goal set the tone for what was to come, as Kalinga Lancers quickly asserted their dominance. Just 25 minutes later, the Lancers doubled their advantage with a clinical strike from Arthur Van Doren in the 36th minute. But the visitors' defense was breached once again just two minutes after that, as Thierry Brinkman capitalized on a defensive error by the Pipers to make it 3-0 going into halftime.

The second half saw the Lancers pick up right where they left off, with Brinkman adding a second goal in the 43rd minute to make it 4-0. The game seemed all but over by that point, but the Lancers weren't finished yet. Gursahibjit Singh added another in the 45th minute, pushing the score to an overwhelming 5-0. The Delhi SG Pipers, despite their best efforts, found themselves well out of the contest.

However, there was a glimmer of hope for the Pipers when Corey Weyer scored a brilliant solo goal in the 46th minute, pulling one back for the visitors. Yet, this proved to be merely a consolation as the Lancers' defense held strong for the remainder of the match, denying any further opportunities for Delhi SG Pipers to claw back into the game.

Kalinga Lancers' attack was led by the clinical finishing of Brinkman, who netted a brace, while Bandurak, Van Doren, and Singh all contributed to the team's offensive success. The defense was equally impressive, with the Lancers staying organized and resolute throughout, ensuring that the Pipers were unable to create meaningful scoring chances. The victory cemented the Lancers' position as one of the most formidable teams in the HIL, with their all-around team effort showcasing their potential to go far in the tournament.
