While the company faces significant challenges, including a sharp decline in stock value and growing debt, the focus remains on maintaining key projects like MotoGP, which not only showcase KTM’s technological prowess but also serve as vital marketing tools.

KTM, amidst a major financial crisis, has assured the Tech3 MotoGP team that its flagship racing program will remain intact. The company, facing a substantial drop in sales and escalating debts, has been forced to implement a series of drastic cost-cutting measures. This includes laying off hundreds of employees, reducing production capacity, and halting manufacturing for a couple of months in early 2025. However, despite these financial challenges, KTM executives, including CEO Stefan Pierer and Chief Operating Officer Hubert Trunkenpolz, have emphasized that the MotoGP program will not be impacted.

KTM's financial difficulties stem from a 27% drop in sales during the first half of 2024, and disappointing sales in both the European and U.S. markets. To mitigate the situation, the company is restructuring, reducing its workforce by over 500 employees, and scaling back production. As part of the adjustments, KTM is also making significant inventory reductions, especially in its electric bicycle segment, where unsold units have built up in warehouses. Furthermore, production shifts will be reduced, and the company will temporarily shut down production lines at the start of 2025.

Despite these financial cuts, the company has assured its motorsport teams that the MotoGP program, which is its most expensive and visible motorsport initiative, will remain unaffected. Tech3's team principal, Herve Poncharal, confirmed that he had been in communication with KTM’s leadership, who reassured him that the financial struggles would not extend to MotoGP. Poncharal expressed confidence in the company's leadership, noting that they had made tough but necessary decisions to navigate the crisis.

MotoGP remains a vital part of KTM’s brand, and both Pierer and Trunkenpolz emphasized that scaling back or discontinuing the program would be a mistake. With KTM’s brand visibility heavily tied to its racing success, it is seen as crucial to their long-term strategy. While the company faces significant challenges, including a sharp decline in stock value and growing debt, the focus remains on maintaining key projects like MotoGP, which not only showcase KTM’s technological prowess but also serve as vital marketing tools.

As part of its efforts to stay competitive, Tech3 will continue representing KTM in MotoGP, after promoting the GasGas brand in 2024. KTM’s contract with Dorna, the MotoGP promoter, has also been extended until 2026, ensuring their participation in the championship. Despite the difficult financial landscape, the company’s commitment to MotoGP remains unwavering, with promises that the program will stay intact and unaffected by the financial difficulties currently faced.
