Ferrari’s car struggled to match the pace of McLaren’s vehicles, particularly on the straights, but Leclerc still managed to outperform expectations and finish on the podium, gaining valuable points over McLaren.

Charles Leclerc is gearing up for a fierce showdown at the season finale in Abu Dhabi, as Ferrari aims to challenge McLaren for the coveted Constructors' Championship. Following his second-place finish at the Qatar Grand Prix, where he narrowly trailed Max Verstappen, Leclerc is determined to close the 21-point gap that separates Ferrari from McLaren in the standings. This result, which saw Leclerc outperform McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who finished third, and Lando Norris, who placed tenth after receiving a penalty, has set the stage for a thrilling conclusion to the 2024 Formula One season.

Leclerc’s performance in Qatar marked another highlight in what has been his most successful season in Formula 1. With 12 podium finishes so far, he has already surpassed his previous record of 11 podiums in 2022. His consistency throughout the season has kept him in the fight for both the Drivers' and Constructors' Championships, and he now finds himself just nine points behind Norris in the Drivers' standings, making the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix all the more significant.

Ferrari, however, faces a tough challenge in Abu Dhabi, as they must outperform McLaren in what is expected to be a tightly contested race. "It's difficult to know how we'll perform in Abu Dhabi," Leclerc admitted, acknowledging the uncertainty of the situation. "But we're all so close, and it's going to be a tight race. Twenty-one points is still a lot, but everything is possible, and we’ll give it our all."

Despite the tough nature of the Qatar circuit, which was not particularly well-suited to Ferrari’s car, Leclerc was pleased with his performance. Ferrari’s car struggled to match the pace of McLaren’s vehicles, particularly on the straights, but Leclerc still managed to outperform expectations and finish on the podium, gaining valuable points over McLaren. His teammate, Carlos Sainz, unfortunately faced an untimely puncture on lap 36 due to debris on the track, which saw him finish in sixth place. Leclerc was quick to reflect on this misfortune, expressing his regret that Sainz couldn’t capitalize on a strong performance.

"I was cautious about the debris on track, staying to the left on the straights to avoid any damage. It's a shame for Carlos, he deserved better,” Leclerc said, showing empathy for his teammate’s difficult race. The misfortune of Sainz, combined with Leclerc’s strong performance, allowed Ferrari to maintain their challenge for both titles.

With only one race remaining, Ferrari will need to perform flawlessly to close the gap to McLaren in the Constructors’ Championship, while Leclerc will also be fighting to secure second place in the Drivers' Championship, a position that could hinge on his performance in Abu Dhabi.

Leclerc’s commitment to the team is evident, as he remains focused on giving his best effort for Ferrari. "We know it will be a tough fight, but we are ready for it," he said, acknowledging the strong competition that Ferrari faces in the final race of the season.

As the Formula 1 season comes to a close, all eyes will be on Abu Dhabi, where Leclerc, Ferrari, McLaren, and Norris will all battle for glory. The final race promises to be a fitting conclusion to a thrilling season, and Leclerc's determination to fight until the very end is a testament to his passion for racing and his belief in Ferrari's potential. The stage is set for an unforgettable climax to the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship.
