McLaren has made it clear that its primary goal this season has always been to secure the constructors' championship rather than concentrating solely on Lando Norris' pursuit of the drivers' title. This statement comes in the wake of the Brazilian Grand Prix, where Norris had a significant opportunity to close the points gap with Max Verstappen. Starting from pole position while Verstappen began the race from 17th on the grid, the expectations were high for Norris to capitalize on his advantageous starting position.

Unfortunately for Norris and the McLaren team, a series of challenges thwarted their ambitions during the race. The wet conditions played a significant role, as Norris struggled with a lack of pace, compounded by a series of driving errors and brake lock-up issues. A poorly timed red flag further complicated his chances, ultimately leading to a disappointing sixth-place finish. Meanwhile, Verstappen showcased his exceptional driving skills by navigating through the field to claim victory, leaving Norris with a daunting 62-point deficit as the season heads into its final three races.

Despite the disappointment of the Brazil result, McLaren insists that it will not alter its overall strategy. Team principal Andrea Stella emphasized that the constructors' championship has always been the team's top priority, stating, “In terms of the constructors’ championship, I don’t think it changes anything. It was always our priority. Even when there was a call to be made to support one driver or the other, it was always secondary to maximizing the constructors’ championship.”

Stella's comments highlight the team's philosophy that success is defined by the collective performance of both drivers and the overall standing of the team in the constructors' rankings. This approach reflects McLaren's long-standing tradition of valuing team achievements over individual accolades. While Norris' personal ambitions are important, the team's focus remains on securing as many points as possible in the constructors' battle, which ultimately contributes to the team's growth and competitiveness in the long run.

As the season progresses, the remaining races will be crucial for McLaren as they seek to consolidate their position in the constructors' championship. With a strong performance from both Norris and his teammate, the team aims to maximize their points haul and put themselves in a strong position as they approach the season's conclusion. While Norris may have to navigate the disappointment of his missed opportunity in Brazil, the unwavering support from his team underscores their commitment to collective success and the overarching goal of bringing McLaren back to the forefront of Formula 1.
