As this is a team event, I believe it is best for Team Europe that I step aside, as others are better positioned to help secure a victory." Nadal’s withdrawal is a significant blow to Team Europe, as he has been a key player in previous editions of the tournament.

Rafael Nadal, the esteemed 22-time Grand Slam champion from Spain, has officially withdrawn from the 2024 Laver Cup due to ongoing fitness concerns. This news was confirmed by the tournament on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.

Nadal, who has been a prominent figure in past Laver Cup events, shared his disappointment in a statement, saying, "I regret to announce that I will not be able to participate in the Laver Cup in Berlin next week. As this is a team event, I believe it is best for Team Europe that I step aside, as others are better positioned to help secure a victory."

Nadal’s withdrawal is a significant blow to Team Europe, as he has been a key player in previous editions of the tournament. He expressed his regret at missing out on this year’s event, particularly given that it is Bjorn Borg's final year as captain. "I have wonderful memories from my past Laver Cup experiences and was eager to join my teammates, especially with it being Bjorn Borg's final year as captain. I wish Team Europe all the best and will be supporting them from afar," Nadal said.

The last time Nadal competed was at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he was knocked out in the second round by Novak Djokovic, who went on to win the title. Nadal also competed in the doubles event alongside Carlos Alcaraz, but the pair were eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Nadal's withdrawal leaves Team Europe without one of their star players and creates a vacancy that they will need to fill before the tournament begins. The Laver Cup, which features a unique team format and has been a platform for exciting tennis, will proceed with the rest of its lineup as planned.
