The Vasser Sullivan racing team endured a tough weekend at the latest round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, held at Watkins Glen International. Competing in the six-hour endurance race, the team fielded two Lexus RC F GT3 cars in the GTD Pro and GTD classes. Both cars showed early promise but were ultimately hindered by challenges that led to a disappointing finish.
The iconic six-hour race at Watkins Glen is one of the key endurance events on the IMSA calendar, drawing top teams and manufacturers. Vasser Sullivan entered the race with high expectations, backed by a strong showing in previous rounds of the season. The No. 14 Lexus RC F GT3, competing in the GTD Pro category, and the No. 12 Lexus RC F GT3, running in GTD, both started the race with solid pace and strategic positioning.
Early in the event, both Lexus cars maintained competitive lap times and gained positions during pit stops and clean driving stints. However, as the race progressed, both entries encountered setbacks. The No. 14 car experienced mechanical issues that required extended time in the garage, affecting its overall track position. Meanwhile, the No. 12 car was involved in an on-track incident that forced an unscheduled pit stop and led to loss of time in the highly competitive GTD field.
Despite efforts by the drivers and crew to recover, the combination of technical difficulties and race traffic limited the team's ability to regain a strong finishing position. By the end of the six-hour contest, both cars finished outside the podium positions, bringing a challenging end to what had initially been a promising race weekend.
Team representatives acknowledged the tough result but remained focused on the positives, including data gathered from the race and the reliability of key systems under endurance conditions. “It’s not the outcome we were aiming for, but we’ll take what we’ve learned and come back stronger. The team worked hard and showed resilience throughout the weekend,” said a Vasser Sullivan spokesperson.
The Watkins Glen race also served as an important round in the IMSA championship standings. With this result, Vasser Sullivan faces increased competition in the points table and will look to make up ground in the upcoming races. The team continues to place emphasis on both development and consistency as the season progresses.
The Lexus RC F GT3 platform has seen success in IMSA competition over the years, known for its balanced performance and durability. While the latest result was a setback, Vasser Sullivan’s continued efforts and technical expertise remain central to their campaign.
Looking ahead, the team will regroup and prepare for the next round of the championship, with a focus on strategy, performance, and clean execution to climb back into contention.
