Apple Releases iOS 26.5 Beta 1 for Developers With Preliminary Updates

Apple has released the first developer beta of iOS 26.5, marking the beginning of the next update cycle for its mobile operating system. The beta version is now live for developers enrolled in Apple’s developer program, offering a preview of changes and enhancements that may arrive in a future public build. This release follows the recent public launch of iOS 26.4 and continues Apple’s iterative updates within the iOS 26 series.

The new beta build, identified by build number 23F5043g, is reportedly over 8GB in size on devices such as the iPhone 17 Pro. This indicates significant updates under the hood, including improvements to system stability, performance and additional groundwork for features that Apple has been testing. One such change is backend support for advertising in Apple Maps, an effort that could lay the foundation for future ad integration within Apple’s map services.

Another notable inclusion in iOS 26.5 Beta 1 is support for RCS encryption in the Messages app. RCS, or Rich Communication Services, represents an evolution of traditional messaging protocols and offers richer features than standard SMS. With end‑to‑end encryption, RCS aims to provide users with enhanced privacy and security for messages that go beyond basic texting. Although this functionality is in early beta and may be refined before wider release, it indicates Apple’s continued effort to modernise messaging features.

Despite expectations around expanded Siri capabilities, this beta does not contain major upgrades to Apple’s digital assistant. Previous speculation suggested that Siri might receive significant improvements, but those appear to remain reserved for future updates or in later versions of iOS. For now, Siri continues to operate as in previous builds without notable new features.

Who Can Download iOS 26.5 Beta 1

At present, iOS 26.5 Beta 1 is available only to developers who are part of Apple’s Developer Program. These registered developers can install the beta on compatible iPhone models to test upcoming features and provide feedback. Apple typically follows this phase with a public beta release, allowing general users to test pre‑release versions ahead of the official launch. The timeframe for public beta availability has not yet been confirmed, but it may arrive in the coming weeks as Apple continues to refine the build.

Compatibility and Requirements

iOS 26.5 Beta 1 supports the same range of devices that are compatible with iOS 26 updates, including recent iPhone models. Users must be enrolled in the Apple Developer Program and have a compatible iPhone to install the beta. Backing up device data before installing any beta software is strongly recommended, as pre‑release software can be unstable and may lead to unexpected issues.

Future Expectations

As the iOS 26.5 beta testing cycle progresses, additional features and changes may be discovered and announced. Developers and beta testers are likely to uncover more refinements, including under‑the‑hood improvements and interface tweaks. Apple’s broader roadmap may include enhancements to artificial intelligence capabilities, improvements in system apps and support for new hardware technologies. Users outside the developer program will have to wait for the public beta and eventual official release to experience these changes.

With iOS 26.5 Beta 1 now available, Apple continues its evolution of the iPhone software platform, refining existing features while preparing the groundwork for future innovations.
