Bajaj Auto has launched a new variant of its popular electric scooter, the Chetak 3001, priced at Rs 99,990 (ex-showroom). The scooter is targeted at urban riders looking for a practical and eco-friendly alternative for daily commuting. With an ARAI-certified range of 127 kilometres, the new model aims to strike a balance between affordability and efficiency in the electric two-wheeler segment.
Positioning in the Market
The Chetak 3001 has been introduced as a more accessible version of Bajaj’s flagship electric scooter lineup. With its sub-Rs 1 lakh pricing, Bajaj appears to be focusing on expanding its reach among price-sensitive customers without compromising on essential features. The launch comes at a time when electric scooters are gaining wider acceptance across Indian cities, driven by rising fuel prices, government incentives, and increased environmental awareness.
Design and Features
The Chetak 3001 retains the retro-modern styling that has made the Chetak series distinctive. It features a solid steel body construction, signature LED lighting, and alloy wheels. The scooter continues to sport a digital instrument console, regenerative braking system, and reverse assist, along with smartphone connectivity options through the Bajaj Chetak app.
The new variant is being offered in three colour options and has a minimalistic yet premium aesthetic. While it doesn't include some of the high-end features of the top-end Chetak Premium model, it offers all the basics required for urban mobility.
Performance and Battery
The Chetak 3001 is powered by a 2.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, which delivers a claimed riding range of 127 km under standard test conditions. The electric motor is tuned for smooth acceleration and is suitable for short to medium-distance city commutes. The scooter supports home charging through a standard 5A socket and takes around 4-5 hours for a full charge.
Although the scooter is not intended for high-speed performance, it delivers consistent power output suited to daily traffic conditions. The suspension setup includes front trailing link suspension and rear monoshock, ensuring stability and comfort for city roads.
Booking and Availability
Bookings for the Chetak 3001 are now open on Bajaj’s official website and at select dealerships across major cities. Deliveries are expected to begin shortly, depending on regional demand and supply chain logistics.
The company is also expected to expand its electric vehicle sales and service network to cover more tier-2 and tier-3 cities over the coming months.
Strategic Move by Bajaj
The launch of the Chetak 3001 reflects Bajaj Auto’s ongoing push to strengthen its presence in India’s growing electric mobility space. Competing with brands like Ola Electric, Ather Energy, and TVS, Bajaj is focusing on a broader customer base by offering more pricing options and improved accessibility.
By offering a practical electric scooter under Rs 1 lakh, Bajaj aims to attract first-time EV buyers and budget-conscious urban commuters.
